Our hero piece, and the first to come off the machine. A bone-white grim reaper with a scythe, ribcage picked out in blood red, knitted stitch by stitch into a heavyweight black wool crew-neck beneath the KNITFERATU wordmark in blackletter. Not a print: the reaper is made of yarn, worked into the fabric itself on Italian flat-bed machines with forty years of knitwear behind them. It will never crack, peel or fade. Knitted to order.

Knitted, not printed
The motif is jacquard: bone-white and coloured yarns carried through the black wool row by row on an industrial flat-bed machine. There is no ink, no transfer and no embroidery on top. Pattern and garment are the same object, so nothing can crack, peel or fade.
Fabric and fit
Heavyweight knit in 50% wool and 50% acrylic: warm and substantial like pure wool, harder-wearing and easier to live with. A finished sweater weighs 450 to 650 g depending on size. Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 2XL. Between sizes, take the bigger one.

Your piece is knitted after you order it: the chart goes on the machine, the yarn is mounted, then it is linked, hand-finished and steamed. Two to three weeks, plus shipping. No dead stock, no warehouse.

The Red Reaper was the first thing this brand ever put on a machine, and it decided everything that came after. A bone-white grim reaper, scythe raised, ribcage picked out in blood red, sitting under the KNITFERATU wordmark in blackletter. It exists because a printed reaper on a sweatshirt looked like merchandise, and we wanted something that looked like a garment.
The chart took longer than the knitting. A reaper reads at three metres or it does not read at all, and every bone had to survive being translated into stitches: the skull, the fingers wrapped around the shaft, the curve of the blade. Three colours carry through the black wool, row by row, on a flat-bed machine that has been doing this for forty years. Nothing sits on the surface, because there is no surface layer.
It is a heavyweight crew-neck with a relaxed unisex cut, ribbed collar, cuffs and hem, and enough body that it holds its shape over a t-shirt or a hoodie. Take your usual size; between two, take the bigger one. The model is 183 cm and wears M. Depending on size the finished piece weighs between 450 and 650 grams, which is roughly twice what a printed sweatshirt weighs.

Wool cycle at 30 degrees inside out, dry flat, never tumble. The reaper cannot crack or peel, because he is made of the same yarn as the sweater around him.

Properly warm. A finished sweater weighs 450 to 650 grams depending on size, roughly twice a printed sweatshirt, in a 50% wool and 50% acrylic heavyweight knit. It works alone in autumn and as the only layer under a coat in winter.
