Knitted, not printed

The motif is jacquard: bone-white and coloured yarns carried through the black wool row by row on an industrial flat-bed machine. There is no ink, no transfer and no embroidery on top. Pattern and garment are the same object, so nothing can crack, peel or fade.

Fabric and fit

Heavyweight knit in 50% wool and 50% acrylic: warm and substantial like pure wool, harder-wearing and easier to live with. A finished sweater weighs 450 to 650 g depending on size. Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 2XL. Between sizes, take the bigger one.

Made to order

Your piece is knitted after you order it: the chart goes on the machine, the yarn is mounted, then it is linked, hand-finished and steamed. Two to three weeks, plus shipping. No dead stock, no warehouse.

Shipping and returns

Free tracked shipping worldwide. EU 2 to 3 working days after dispatch, UK and US 3 to 6, rest of the world up to 10. Fourteen days to change your mind, and the size exchange is free.

The piece

A bone-white web spreads from the left shoulder across the chest and down the sleeve of this black cardigan, with one small spider abseiling towards the hem. Asymmetric on purpose: a web that is centred looks like a logo, and a web that starts at the shoulder looks like it was actually spun there.

Radial lines running diagonally across a knitted grid are one of the harder things to chart, because the fabric wants to make them into steps. The web is drawn so the radials thicken slightly as they travel out from the shoulder, which is what tricks the eye into reading them as smooth. It is knitted through the black wool in bone-white yarn, gunmetal buttons down the front.

Relaxed unisex fit with a button placket, ribbed cuffs and hem, S to 2XL, true to size. Heavyweight at 500 to 700 grams finished. The web reads best worn open, where it runs uninterrupted from shoulder to hem. The model is 173 cm and wears M.

Knitted to order in Italy, two to three weeks, then free tracked shipping worldwide. Wool cycle at 30 degrees inside out, dry flat, never hang while wet. Spun into the garment rather than printed onto it, which is the only correct way to make a web.

Questions about this piece
Is the motif printed or knitted?

Knitted. Every line of the pattern is yarn carried through the black wool on a flat-bed machine, not ink on the surface. That is why it survives the wash and why the back of the fabric shows the pattern in negative.

How heavy is this cardigan?

Between 500 and 700 grams finished, depending on size. That weight is deliberate: it is what stops a knitted cardigan from hanging limp after a season, and it is why we ask you to dry it flat rather than on a hanger.

Which size should I take?

Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 2XL, with flat measurements in centimetres on the size guide. Take your usual size to wear it open, one up if you want it to sit longer over the hip.

How do I wash it without ruining it?

Wool cycle at 30 degrees, inside out, in a laundry net. Never tumble dry, never wring, and dry it flat on a towel away from radiators and direct sun. Fold it to store it: heavy knit on a hanger stretches at the shoulders.
